Citi Bike Operators Send NMEF $2500 Donation in Memory of Darren Drake
Motivate International, the company that runs the Citi Bike project in New York City, sent a $2,500 check to the New Milford Education Foundation to honor the memory of former New Milford Board of Education member Darren Drake.
Drake was among those murdered when the terrorist attacked a crowd of people with a vehicle in Manhattan last year.
Julia Wood, vice president for External Affairs for Motivate International, wrote in a letter that accompanied the generous donation, “Like all New Yorkers, we were heartbroken by the terror attack in October, and by the passing of Darren Drake. As the operators of Citi Bike, we wanted to make a small donation in his memory. We are grateful that he was a member of the Citi Bike community, and we trust that you will put this donation to good use in his honor.”

"While we in no way expected this donation, we agree with the sentiment, and assure Motivate International that their generosity will directly benefit our students in honor of Darren"
NMEF President Alison Fischer said the foundation was surprised, impressed, and grateful for the donation. “While we in no way expected this donation, we agree with the sentiment, and assure Motivate International that their generosity will directly benefit our students in honor of Darren,” Fischer said.
Fischer confirmed that the NMEF is about to announce grants financed with the money raised during last year’s fundraising gala and would decide where to place this $2,500 once the grants are finalized.
